Polynucleotides

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are short chains of nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA. When injected into the skin they promote skin regeneration, improving skin health.

The Plinest polynucleotides are highly purified and strerilsed DNA fragments extracted from fish (salmon/trout).

Polynucleotides activate fibroblasts (the cells responsible for producing collagen) in the skin. Collagen is a key protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. By stimulating collagen production, polynucleotides help to firm and tighten the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

They have a natural ability to bind water. This moisture-binding property helps improve skin hydration, which is essential for maintaining smooth, plump, and healthy-looking skin. Better hydration also supports the skin’s natural barrier function, making it more resilient.

Additionally they have anti-inflammatory properties, reducing redness and irritation. This makes them beneficial in treating conditions like acne, rosacea, and other skin irritations or inflammation-related issues.

They also can promote cell proliferation and tissue regeneration, polynucleotides can be used to support healing in areas of skin damage, such as acne scars.

Over time, collagen and elastin (the key components to achieving a youthful appearance) start to dwindle, leaving visible signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging, and dryness. Polynucleotides stimulates those crucial building blocks to come back stronger dramatically improving skin quality across the forehead, under eyes, face, and neck, resulting in a firmer, plumper, and smoother appearance.

Polynucleotides have gained popularity in anti-aging and skin rejuvenation in recent years, offering a non-invasive way to more youthful looking skin. However they have been used in the NHS for decades to help heal wounds, burns, damaged skin, and scar tissue.

What are the different polynucleotide products and their benefits?

At The Aesthetics Studio we use Plinest products, a leading brand in polynucleotides.
We currently provide:

Plinest Eye is perfect for treating fine lines, dark circles and texture  around the eye area, creating a brighter, more youthful look.

Plinest which is the strongest concentration of polynucleotide, is an ideal treatment for acne scarring, enlarged pores and pigmentation as it encourages cell renewal to promote a more even complexion. Plinest is also great treatment for the neck and décolleté as it helps to tighten and firm the skin, restoring definition and a more youthful contour.

Plinest NEWEST has a combination of polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid to achieve the same results as Plinest with added skin hydration, leaving your skin looking dewy and refreshed.

How do they work?

Polynucleotides work by utilizing their biochemical properties to promote skin regeneration and repair at the cellular level.

When injected into the skin, they trigger a repair mechanism similar to the body’s natural DNA repair processes. This enhances the regeneration of skin cells, improving overall skin health and rejuvenation.

As we age our cell function decreases causing our skin to become thin, dry, dull and dehydrated, we also start to notice wrinkles, dark circles and a decrease in skin firmness. These skin changes happen because our cells are no longer working to their full potential causing a reduction in fibroblast cells which play a key role in producing collagen and elastin.

Polynucleotides restore old damaged cells increasing wound healing, promoting hydration, boosting fibroblasts, increasing collagen and elastin, enhancing skin tightness, reducing scars and hyperpigmentation.

What is involved in a polynucleotide treatment?

After a thorough consultation the treatment involves the skin being cleaned and the application of a numbing cream to the treated area if required.
Followed by the Plinest Polynucleotide solution being injected into the dermis (the middle layer of the skin) using a fine needle.

How many polynucleotide sessions will I need?

The number of polynucleotide treatments required will depend on your skin's starting condition, the area being treated and the desired results.

Following your consultation and examination we can discuss a treatment plan. As a guide, we recommend between 4-6 polynucleotide treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, for optimal results. Then a maintenance treatment every 6-9 months.

How long will the results last?

The effects of polynucleotide treatments can vary depending on the individual.
Generally, the results last 6-9 months, with maintenance sessions often recommended for prolonged benefits.

What are the side effects?

The treatment is generally well-tolerated, but like any cosmetic procedure, it can have side effects. Common side effects include:

Localized redness and swelling at the injection site are common and usually resolve within a few hours to days.

Bruising may occur, particularly if the area is sensitive or if the procedure involves multiple injection sites.

Some discomfort or a sensation of tightness in the treated area can occur post-treatment.

Mild itching can develop as a reaction to the treatment, though this typically resolves quickly.

Am I suitable for polynucleotides?

Dynamic wrinkles are those caused by repetitive movement of facial muscles when we make expressions or show our emotions such as smiling, squinting, frowning and being in shock. As we age, all these repeated facial movements lead to the appearance crow's feet, forehead lines and frown lines. Dynamic lines can be improved by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for creating the wrinkles using Botox®.

However, static lines and wrinkles that are not caused by repetitive muscle movement but are related to natural ageing, which is caused by loss of hydration, collagen and elastin or volume in the skin. These are best treated with other cosmetic injectables, dermal fillers, skin boosters, polynucleotides, Profhilo, or BeautifEYE & Bio Nutri Neck.

What is involved with anti-wrinkle injection treatment?

Small doses of Botulinum Toxin are injected intramuscular to target the muscles responsible for dynamic lines or movement in this area.

Profhilo

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo® is an injectable skin treatment designed to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall appearance. It is a type of bio-remodeling therapy that uses a highly concentrated form of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that helps retain moisture and supports skin structure.

It is specially formulated for people whose skin lacks hydration and elasticity. Profhilo® not only hydrates the skin but it also improves skin laxity, skin tone and improves firmness and stimulates collagen and elastin production for more youthful skin.

How does it work?

The hyaluronic acid in Profhilo is delivered in a slow-release manner. This means it spreads evenly under the skin to improve hydration and promote collagen production. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which are typically used for volume restoration, Profhilo works more to enhance skin quality by stimulating the skin’s own regenerative processes.

It’s a great option for people looking for a non-invasive treatment to improve skin texture and tone, reduce fine lines, and address early signs of skin aging without the need for more invasive procedures.

What are the benefits?

Profhilo is injected using a fine needle into several points of the treatment area (usually 5 injection sites per side of the face). The hyaluronic acid formulation is spread evenly under the skin. Unlike dermal fillers, the goal is not to add volume or shape but to deliver hydration and stimulate collagen production.

The difference between Profhilo and Skin Booster?

Profhilo and Redensity 1 are both injectable treatments designed to improve skin quality, but they differ in formulation, goals, and treatment technique.

Profhilo is primarily composed of a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA). This HA formulation is unique in that it is highly stabilised and spreads evenly beneath the skin, providing deep hydration and stimulating collagen and elastin production. It's ideal for patients looking to improve skin hydration, laxity and texture. Profhilo produces natural-looking results, giving your skin a glow and plumpness helping your skin to appear more youthful.

Whereas Redensity 1 combines hyaluronic acid, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. This combination helps nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate the skin, improving its overall texture and appearance. Redensity 1 is often used for more specific concerns like dullness, fine lines and uneven skin texture compared to Profhilo, which focuses mainly on hydration and collagen stimulation.

Profhilo involves 5 injection each side of the face compared to Redensity 1 where numerous micro injections are preformed in the treated area.
